Chinese new year decoration

Chinese new year's coming nearer! And my house is already full with hangings and lanterns and stuffs. Actually, the person who decorated my house is my auntie, who taught me how to make popcorn. Seriously, guys, she's one real creative person. You see a bunch of branches over at the photos? I think that it was a superb idea! Instead of using regular decorating items, she used a bunch of roses to decorate them. Which, I think, created a final, sort-of classy-oriental look.

Way to go, auntie! :)

Envelope card

The best thing about me eldest sister is, she's an innovative person who triggers people to make something creative. And she's the one one who inspired me to make this 'envelope' card.

About a week ago, my sister had to attend her friend's wedding, and she asked me to make a wedding card. I said: okay, why not? Then, she asked me to make an envelope, I said no, I don't make envelopes. So, she asked me to make a card that doesn't require any envelope. Suddenly, this 'envelope card' idea crept into my mind.

I didn't use any template for making this card, and so, the scoring and the cutting process took a while. The key of making the card base, is to make an isosceles triangle protruding on each side, and you have to make sure that the triangle on the upper and lower side is slightly longer than half the width of the rectangle in the center. And also, the left and the right triangle have to be slightly longer than half the length of the rectangle in the center. You also have to cut a slit on the center of the upper triangle and the right side triangle, so that they can interlock the triangle on the opposite side and prevent them from keep opening.

Anyway, my sister use this envelope card not only as a greeting card, but she also used it as a holder of her angpao (red envelope).

That's the card for this week, enjoy! :)

The Iguana

These pictures were taken at Claudia's house. Recently, she told me that her uncle has taken this iguana as his own pet, and she hadn't got a chance to take a photo of it, so she asked me to send these photos to her. And because she's a frequent reader of my blog, I think that I'll just post them so that she can copy them later.

Enjoy, Claudia, these pictures are all yours! :)

Quickest Card to date

This is the second card that I made this week, pretty elegant don't you think? I made this card for only half an hour! Well it might seems to be a very long time, but honestly, believe it or not, it usually took me 3-4 hours to make a single card. The process of making a card is not as simple as people thought it is. First you have to have a general idea of how you want to make it, then you'll start assembling color, and choose pattern paper and the stamps that you'll use, then start executing your ideas.

So, what made me in such hurry?

Well, my eldest sister has a friend who'll be celebrating her birthday today. In about 3.30 pm, when I was having a study group in my house, she called me and told me to make a birthday card for her friend, and she's going to her friend's party at 5 pm. I was like: 'What? Are you crazy?"

As soon as my friends went home, I started making the card. The person who'll receive this card is about 22 years old, and I wanted to make a card that doesn't look childish. I decided that I would use a turquoise-umber color scheme (which is my favorite color combination at the moment).

After working for about 30 minutes, I've finished the card. And I hope the recipient will like it! :)

Another Valentine Card

This is the most pinkish card that I've made..... lol :).... And because it's a pretty long card, I recommend you to use harder card stock for the base.  I made it last week, but I haven't got the time to post it on this blog. Anyhow, Enjoy!

Can u keep a secret?

Can you guys actually believe that I have only made two cards this week? Well, this card is one of them.
The inspiration that I got for this card is the lock and key stamp from La Chateau stamp set. I thought that a 'can u keep a secret' card is a really good idea, instead of showing sympathy or congratulating someone, you use this card to tell somebody about your secrets.

Happy cardmaking!

School Project

In case you guys didn't know, I have tons of projects from school, and I got a homework to make a France food menu. It was the kind of projects that I like: designing things.

I was thinking of how I'm going to make this menu, and then, I remembered my La Chateau stamp that my sister bought me, and finally, I decided to use it. I tried to make a classic, elegant menu, using soft, chic color scheme. And after arranging a lot of things and stamping a lot of images, I got it the way I wanted it to be. However, this menu's cover looked a bit strange to me, I think that it looks more like a wedding invitation than a menu!

Note Book

Hi guys, how do you do? Sorry I haven't been updating this blog for such a long time, I haven't got much time lately since there is always a school stuff to finish. Anyway, in this archive, I'm going to show you all my note book, which I got as a wedding souvenir, but I didn't quite like its cover, since it was shocking pink, so I decided to cover it up with the pattern paper that I like, and stamped it with images that I love.

I think that it's a good idea to show you all how to decorate dreadful note books or any books,  to the ones that suite your style. And if you're kind of a person who easily forget things (like me), I suggest you to get a note book, or make one of your own! Enjoy :)

Where's my TV?

Well, that's a stupid question, I know where my TV is, it's in my grandma's bedroom. So what's my dear- lovely wide screen TV doing in my grandma's room? Well, hers was broken, and my father decided that we should move the TV to my Grandma's room, arghh! I haven't watched TV for about a week, and in case you don't know, I love watching TV!

Actually, there are ups and downs of having no TV. The upside is that I have more time concentrating on school stuffs and not to be bothered with TV. The downside is, I spend more time in front of computer and I can't watch my favorite movies in my bed room anymore!

Anyway, I had just finished taking a bath this morning, and I looked at the clock and I thought: 'Oh yeah! It's still 11.30, I'm wanna watch Oprah!' Then, I went out from my bathroom, and I saw my empty table : Damn! I've forgotten that I haven't got a TV!

And so, I asked my dad to buy me a new one, fortunately he agreed, under one condition, I can't place my TV in my bedroom, it has to be located in my library. No worry though, I said okay to him. Can't wait to get my hands on that new TV! :)

PS: How many times do I say "TV" in this archive? lol

My Grandpas

When I was a child,  I used to be very proud of having a complete family, meaning that I have a mother and a father and two elder sisters and also, a complete set of grandparents.Well, I'm not so lucky now.

On the first February last year, my grandpa, my dad's father, whom I called Akong, passed away. He was the first closed person to die, and I was really sad.  I used to be very closed to my Akong. When I was little, my Akong lived in Medan and I in Jakarta, and he occasionally flew to Jakarta by plane. Every time I saw a plane flew across the sky, I would say: "Hey! Akong's coming!" I remember that I used to sit on his lap and kissed his cheeks, I used to watch him clean his electric razor too. My Akong also got a talent in art. He would take one of the encyclopedias my mum bought me and he would drew the animals featured in the book. He's drawing was really good, and there are some drawing books full of his paintings.

My Akong was a successful businessman and the stroke he got in his early seventies caused a serious blow in his life. Because of his health condition, he had to move to Jakarta and live with my family.

However, as I grew older, my relationship with my Akong grew distant. I deal with my own problems, concentrated on school stuffs, and going out with friends. One day, my Akong suddenly fell sick after taking a chinese medication, he went to hospital by ambulance and spent a week in ICU until he passed away. I was sorry I didn't spend more time with him.

And now, my other grandpa, my mom's father, whom I call Kungkung is sick. He recently had to stay in the hospital because he got really ill. He also got blood when he coughed, and we all guessed that he got a lung cancer, but after further check-up, the doctor diagnosed that my Kungkung got a thyroid cancer, and the cancer has spread to his liver and his brain. We're all really shocked by the news. And we finally decided that my Kungkung wouldn't undergo any cancer treatment such as chemotherapy because he's too old and fragile.

Anyway, after my family got the bad news, we began to spend more time with Kungkung, I go to my Popo's (grandma, mom's mother) more often, and we have more family gathering. I would chat with him, trying to cheer him up, and he seems to be happier when his family is around.

Bottom line is, keep your friends and family close. You never know.

In the cage

Hi all! I've created another card , sort of a wedding type card. This card is really really classic, which is unusual for me, but it was really exciting and challenging making it!

My sister bought me this classic 12"x12" pattern paper, and it was a challenge for me to make a card out of my comfort zone ( I don't usually make elegant cards).
I was thinking of what to make from this pattern paper when I remembered that I have a birdcage stamp, and I thought that the classic design of the stamp would match the pattern of the paper.

Though it seems like a really simple card, it took me a really long time to finish. The hardest part was to cut the details of the cage, I had to be really careful to make sure that the sections that I was going to cut was right.

Anyhow, that's the card for today, enjoy! :)

Love birds

Do you notice the pink gloss on the leaves? I added those glossy details by brushing my pink nail polish onto them! :D

Each flower is made of five punched circles

Hi guys! About two or three days ago I made this 'Love Birds' collection. All of the three cards used the same supplies : same pattern paper and card stock, same stamps and ribbon, same glitter embellishment, and they are all have identical color scheme too! They are only slightly different in designs, but basically, each card has stamped flower background and has the same focal point : two birds with glittered wings facing each other with a red heart popped up between them.

You can make a collection of cards from the same supplies, to add some interest, and also, to develop your cardmaking creativity!  Enjoy :)
